The 2020/2021 season of the Alpine of the Centro Sportivo Esercito of Courmayeur will open next Friday, November 27. The Tour de Ski and the World Championships will be the main targets.
Muonio, Finland – Nov. 23rd 2020 • The cross-country skiing World Cup season is now in the countdown: next weekend (27-28-29 November) the classic “Ruka Triple” stage on the Finnish snow will be the first important appointment for the Alpine from Gressoney.
Landed in Scandinavia on November 13, Francesco was able to ski with some continuity at the end of a fairly profitable preparation period: «We arrived here in the North a week late, also due to the well-known problems related to Covid-19 – says De Fabiani – but despite this we have done a good job without too many hitches. Of course, a few more hours on the Finnish snow would certainly have come in handy, but in general I am satisfied and above all my physical shape seems to be better than a year ago, when the known back problems had in fact affected the whole past season».
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November the Azzurri carried out a test together with other national teams in two challenges of 15 km, the first in classic technique, the second in skating technique: «I actually made two real "power" tests, the first of the season, and I finished 15th and 19th with discrete sensations». The tests, dominated by the Russian team, saw Belov and Melnichenko on the edge, evidence of a great shape: in fact that the Russians will use these results as a qualification to access the event in Ruka.
«I will be on the track on Friday for the Sprint C, then on Saturday there will be the time trial 15 km C and then on Sunday a pursuit 15 km F – says the alpine – and paradoxically, it seems that on this track I’m performing better in skating».
There will be two seasonal goals: «First of all – adds Defast – the Tour de Ski, where I hope to improve the result of two years ago, and then obviously the World Championships in Oberstdorf, which will take place on a track that has given me incredible satisfaction in the past, in particular the focus is on the 50 km classic which has always been a dream for me».
