De Fabiani archives the most difficult season of his career by focusing on the goals of the next seasons starting from the Trondheim 2025 World Championships, thinking about the 2026 Games.

Gressoney Saint-Jean, Italy – Apr. 23rd 2024 • The 2023-2024 season did not bring the results long awaited by Francesco De Fabiani, due to an abrupt interruption during the Tour de Ski due, probably to COVID-19.

The return to racing was more complicated than ever, thanks to an inflammatory state that lasted well beyond the winter months: «In fact – says FrancescoI started to feel ill during the Toblach stage, at the start of the Tour de Ski, and despite had the start of the season been rather encouraging, I could no longer recover the energy to be competitive in the World Cup».

The return to racing in Canada in fact represented the classic flash in the pan «Because the breathing difficulties immediately recurred – adds Defastand in a short time I understood that health comes first of all and so I decided to put an end to this season well in advance».

Abruptly interrupting a Cup season is never nice, but despite everything, the Alpine from the Army Sports Center of Courmayeur sees the glass half full: «I have to see the positive side of all this: I was able to rest (and I will still rest because I have not recovered completely), I have done activities such as ski mountaineering, I have dedicated myself to other things, trying to recover also and above all on a psychological level».

If the season just ended was really stingy, in terms of results and continuity, the cross-country skier from Gressoney certainly won't lay down his weapons, also because there are two very important seasons ahead, 2025 with the World Championship in Norway in Trondheim and that of 2026 with the Milan Cortina Olympics: «I am very motivated to recover as quickly as possible and I can't wait to start again by setting the goals that I have had in mind for some time. Trondheim will be a great opportunity also because there will be a nice 10km classic, in addition to my beloved team races, while obviously the Olympic dream at home is something I want to realize by participating, let's not forget that it will take place in Val di Fiemme. Obviously, first of all we will need to get back into shape and earn participation in both events on the ground».
